Romans Part 3
Continuity
Using the Sketch Map of The Roman Goldmine (Leaflet 4.1), recap from the beginning to the end of Chapter 4, where Abraham is given as an example of living faith in that he trusted God completely.
Input
The Plague
Every human being is infected with a ‘disease’ from which no human can save himself. We have a hundred words for this plague, which shows itself as soon as we are old enough to think, like “Me-First-people”, “self-enthronement”, “pride”, “self-righteousness”, etc. The bible uses the word “Sin”. It does not mean merely doing wrong, but being wrong.
The Cure-Romans Chapter 5 verses 1 to 11 is about being at home with God and with ourselves and with each other. See how God has done this.
The Change-Romans Chapter 5 verse 12 to Chapter 6 verse 14 It is like dying and coming back to life again.
The Contrast-Because people might be tempted to think that it is all too easy and trade on God’s grace, Paul gives two illustrations and a Testimony:
Illustration 1 Freedom from Slavery-Chapter 6 verses 15 to 23
Illustration 2 Marriage Laws -Chapter 7 verses 1 to 6
Testimony-Paul realised that his willpower was, and is, never enough.
He needed, and found, deliverance through putting his life into the hands of Christ.
