2 Corinthians Part 4
Pause for Breath
In this session, we pause to catch our breath by looking over the Corinthian correspondence.See how much good teaching came from such an explosive and difficult situation.
Question – In both I and II Corinthians, can you point to any particular
passage which ‘Rang your Bell”? and say why.
The hard lesson at Corinth was learning to be the Church in a Pagan society. It always is for the Church in any age, in any place.
Recap- I Corinthians Chapters 1 to 6
Question-What are the unchanging strategies to be affirmed by the Churches now in order to be truly effective?
Briefly Recap-I Corinthians Chapters 7 to 16 in which Paul grappled with the specific questions asked by the church. Remember they asked Paul about the Christian attitude to Love, Sex and Marriage and how far ought Christians to go in a permissive society and worship and gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Resurrection.
Question – If you as a group were writing to Paul, what questions would you put to him now? (Make a list)
Briefly Recap-II Corinthians Chapters 1 to 7 and focus especially on three levels of the Christian Ministry of Reconciliation (II Corinthians Chapter 5 verse 11 to Chapter 6 verse 2):
Level 1 Being reconciled to God
Level 2 Being reconciled to each other
Level 3 Reconciling the world to God as his
Ambassadors in a Pagan world.
Question – How much are these neglected today?
Uniquely Christian Leadership
II Corinthians, Chapter 6 verses 3 to 10-These qualities are not admired by the Pagan world, but should direct our prayer:
Let them do so in your prayers.
Optional Reading for Next Session read Galatians, Chapters 1 to 2.
