March 16th – Connected to the Mains Supply

If your water supply at home runs dry you wouldn’t normally dash off to the reservoir to check if it is full – you would check your taps and the lines of supply in your house, beginning with the channels in and into your house. Is there a blockage? A leak that is more likely to be the cause of your dry taps? When we pray as Christian believers for revival we know that only God can bring the living water to our leaking cisterns; but rarely do we check for blockages or leakages when we are dry. Why are we dry as a desert in face of overflowing promises of living water? Perhaps we should check out our supply lines at home. God is on record: He is longing to pour out his love and power and mercy on us. He wants to, and we say we do – but we hardly ever check for blockages! We keep phoning the reservoir.
God never bothers about the size of the pipes and vessels. He cares only that they hold water and that they are clean. Like you in your kitchen, you won’t use dirty vessels as channels, and neither will God. In the dryness of the Christian Church, it is not God’s unwillingness to supply us – it is our blockages and choked up supply lines which cause the droughts of the Spirit.
The way the Bible directs, to begin the flow is for God’s people to ‘come clean’ and confess that they are not all that eager, open and ready for God. We ignore our unbelief, our petty lying and deceits, our bitter tongues, our ungrateful hearts. We are prayerless, greedy, lazy, self-seeking, jealous, small-minded and proud – or am I over-stating it? The call today, and every day, to those who seek Holy Spirit revival in our land, is to be willing to let God clear out our blockages, to stem the leaks, and flow. This is from 2 Chronicles, concerning drought and starvation where the Lord said to Solomon: When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain … if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. II Chronicles 7: 13-14
A Prayer: In this spiritual desert which we call our modern civilisation, Lord lead us to repent, turning from our wicked ways, to seek your face, then may the flow of your Spirit truly slake our thirst.
Now read Acts Chapter 3.

Thought 4 The Day

Let us beware of being wiser than God. What he has written He has written not for our opinion but for our obedience. (Anon)
